Healthy Steamboat Dinner at Yumin's house

Had steamboat dinner at Yumin's house on Hari Raya Holiday. We had a homely and healthy meal.

Ingredients bought for the steamboat are all healthy and quality stuff: Mushrooms, vegetables (brocoli & chinese cabbage), meatballs, fishballs, cuttlefishballs, prawns, udon, corn, pork shabu shabu, crabstick, tofu, tomato etc.

Sauce specially mixed by Yumin: Olives, onion, hua tiao jiu, garlic & olive oil (Not bad, a new taste, with a bit of fresh chili, the taste will be better).

The soup base was very tasty, cooked with corn and some dried shrimps (not the small type, medium sized one) with a bit of soup paste. After adding in the ingredients, the soup become very sweet & tasty. It was a simple meal, but very healthy.

Caffeine

Caffeine - present in tea and coffee

Coffee is one of my favourite drink. I just can't substain the urge when i smell coffee aroma. Having a cup of hot coffee, idling in the cafehouse and reading a good book is an enjoyment to me, esp when it is a rainy day.

Because of my kidney disease, i have slowly kicked the habit of drinking coffee daily to keep myself awake. Now coffee becomes a luxury to me and i told myself that i'll only have it 3 - 4 times a week. Btw... i have to substain from diary products so now my mum only allows me to drink Kopi-O which i have slowly got accustomed to. Better than nothing.

As i only drink 3-4 times of coffee a week, i get very upset when the coffee i drink is not up to standard. I feel that i'm wasting my caffeine intake by drinking unsincere coffee, i might as well drink plain water. Good aromatic coffee is really hard to come by.

Good Coffee (*Recommended)

1. Indochine 2-in-1 coffee (the creamer is non-diary one, non sugar added, the taste is not bad)
2. Old Town white kopi-O (not bad, don't buy the w sugar added one, add own sugar to taste)

Bad Coffee

1. Cedele normal brew (although its organic, the coffee is almost tasteless, the tea in Cedele taste
better)
2. Aik Cheong 2-in-1 coffee mix (not much coffee taste)
3. Cappuchino (too foamy)
4. Gold roast Kopi-O (Very sweet)

Buffets "不肥"

Buffets also know as "不肥" in chinese, but the translation do not seem to fit at all. How can buffets be "不肥"? Buffets will result in one being fat and 肥 not 不肥.

Having buffets is both a happy and sinful thing. During buffets, one would feel very happy looking at the variety of spreads and taking the food. 新加坡人爱吃 又 kiasu怎么会放过在buffet 大吃大喝呢? 吃"不肥"的时侯是佷开心和莘福的.

However, at the end of the buffet, one will feel bloated, guilty and sinful, thinking of ways to get rid of the sins (frantically looking for tea or anyways to feel less bloated). That is when you feel guilty and sinful on indulging all the food. There are also some people who overeat untill they want to puke, but its only at the end then you realize it. Haha... i speak with experience.

Actually buffets is a good concept because people can choose from a variety of food choices. But we should only go for the quality and not the quantity. Must be able to refrain from overeating as it is not good for the body and your health.

Swee Heng Cake Shop

Swee Heng Cake Shop was discovered by me when i was strolling along Potong Pasir road. Actually it is like a normal traditional cake and bakery shop, nothing fanciful from the outside. But when i stepped in, i was very impressed by the variety of freshly homemade bread loafs sold there. And the best part is they have a variety of healthy breads, eg. multigrain wholemeal bread, sunflower seed and pumkin bread, cranberry bread, carrot bread, corn bread, walnut bread etc. Of course, there are normal white bread, pandan bread coffee bread loafs etc. They also sold different kuehs, cakes, 饼 etc.

I have finally started on my food blog

I am a kidney failure patient and hence there are a lot of food which i must watch and avoid. For example: potassium, phosphate, cholesterol etc. Eating becomes a big headache. Foodlists and advice given by different healthcare institution and people varies somewhat. Initially, i am confused by all the "no", "no" food and heck advice. Overtime, i'm slowly figuring out my own foodlist and diet. I wanted to set up this food site to understand better about food and remind myself of a good and balanced diet.
